Personal Items
At Delta Independent School, we are committed to providing a safe, calm and focused learning environment where every student can thrive. To minimise distractions, promote positive learning behaviours and ensure the safety of our school community, we ask all students to follow the guidance below regarding personal belongings.
Mobile Phones, Smart Watches and Electronic Devices
To support learning and reduce distractions, all mobile phones and smart watches (including Apple Watches) must be handed in at reception on arrival each morning. Devices are securely stored throughout the school day and returned to students before they leave.
Smart watches are not permitted to be worn during the school day. This includes Apple Watches and any other wearable devices capable of receiving notifications, sending messages, accessing the internet or taking photographs.
Headphones and earbuds are permitted when authorised by a member of staff to support learning or individual educational needs. At all other times, they should be stored away unless permission has been given.
Any unauthorised use of a mobile phone, smart watch or other electronic device may result in it being confiscated, and parents/carers may be asked to collect it from school.
Our electronic device policy helps create a calm and focused learning environment, encourages positive face-to-face interaction and supports the safeguarding of all students.
Personal Belongings
Students should only bring items that are required for the school day.
Whilst every effort is made to ensure personal belongings remain safe, Delta Independent School cannot accept responsibility for the loss, theft or damage of personal possessions. We therefore recommend that students do not bring valuable items or belongings of significant monetary or sentimental value into school.
Energy Drinks
Energy drinks are not permitted on the school site.
We encourage healthy lifestyle choices that promote concentration, wellbeing and positive learning. Parents and carers are asked to support the school by ensuring students do not bring or purchase energy drinks before or during the school day.
Smoking and Vaping
Delta Independent School is a smoke-free and vape-free environment.
Smoking, vaping and the possession of vaping devices are strictly prohibited on school premises.
Any vape or vaping-related item brought onto the school site will be confiscated immediately and dealt with in accordance with the school's Behaviour Policy.
Vapes will not be returned to students or parents/carers and will be safely destroyed on site.
We are committed to promoting healthy lifestyles and, where appropriate, will offer support and guidance to students who wish to stop vaping and make positive choices regarding their health and wellbeing.
Prohibited Items
The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is our highest priority. Students must not bring prohibited items onto the school site.
These include:
Knives or offensive weapons.
Illegal drugs or controlled substances.
Alcohol.
Fireworks or explosives.
Stolen property.
Pornographic images or material.
Any item that could reasonably be used to cause injury, threaten another person or damage property.
Any prohibited item found on school premises will be dealt with in accordance with current legislation, safeguarding guidance and the school's Behaviour Policy. Depending on the circumstances, this may include contacting parents/carers, the police or other appropriate external agencies.
Working Together
By following these expectations, we can maintain a safe, respectful and positive environment where every student is able to learn, develop and succeed.
Thank you for supporting Delta Independent School in creating a community where everyone is in the Right Place, at the Right Time, doing the Right Thing.
