Behaviour at Delta

Creating a Positive Culture

At Delta Independent School, we believe that positive behaviour creates positive outcomes. We have high expectations of every student and work hard to create a calm, safe and respectful environment where every young person can learn, develop and succeed. Our staff build strong relationships with students, recognising that positive behaviour is encouraged through consistency, encouragement and mutual respect.

Our school ethos is simple:

Right PlaceRight TimeRight Thing

Every day we encourage our students to ask themselves:

  • Am I in the right place?

  • Am I here at the right time?

  • Am I doing the right thing?

These three principles underpin everything we do and help prepare our students not only for school, but for life beyond the classroom.

Promoting Positive Behaviour

At Delta, we believe that positive behaviour should be recognised and celebrated.

Students are rewarded regularly for demonstrating our school values, making positive choices, showing kindness, working hard and contributing positively to the school community.

Our rewards system encourages students to:

  • Attend school regularly

  • Demonstrate positive behaviour

  • Show resilience and perseverance

  • Support others

  • Engage in learning

  • Read regularly through our Starbooks reading initiative

  • Take pride in their achievements

Positive points earned throughout the school day become part of our school rewards system, allowing students to redeem a range of rewards as they work towards personal goals.

We believe that recognising success helps build confidence, motivation and a genuine enjoyment of learning.

Supporting Students to Make Better Choices

When behaviour falls below our expectations, our focus is always on helping students make better choices.

Rather than simply issuing sanctions, we use a graduated support system that combines restorative conversations, personalised interventions and ongoing guidance.

This allows us to:

  • Understand the reasons behind behaviour.

  • Help students regulate their emotions.

  • Encourage responsibility and accountability.

  • Restore positive relationships.

  • Provide appropriate support where needed.

Our staff work closely with students and families to ensure every young person receives the guidance they need to succeed.

Our Behaviour Pathway

We operate a clear and supportive behaviour pathway that enables concerns to be addressed early whilst providing increasing levels of support where required.

Students may receive:

  • Classroom reminders and restorative conversations.

  • Support from our Student Support Team.

  • Form Tutor monitoring.

  • Head of Year support and report.

  • Senior Leadership Team intervention.

  • Individual behaviour plans and parental meetings where appropriate.

Each stage focuses on supporting students to reflect on their choices, develop positive behaviours and successfully engage with learning.

Building Respectful Relationships

Everything we do is centred around positive relationships.

We strive to create a school community where everyone feels:

  • Safe

  • Respected

  • Valued

  • Supported

  • Ready to learn

By promoting kindness, empathy, responsibility and mutual respect, we help our students develop the personal skills they need to thrive both in school and in the wider community.
